History and Places of Interest

Cotswold Lodge is just a 20-minute walk from the historical Roman Corinium town of Cirencester, which boasts a wide range of shops and attractions for all.

Cirencester is a quintessential and historical market town in the heart of The Cotswolds. It was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times and in later years, it was a very prosperous medieval wool town. Cirencester is full of tastefully restored courtyards, alleyways and lovely old streets.

Cirencester Park is probably the finest example of geometric landscaping in the country. The town's Roman Amphitheatre still exists and the Corinium Museum hosts an extensive Roman collection. The Church of St. John Baptist stands in the heart of the market place.

Cotswold Lodge is perfectly situated to make the most of the surrounding area, including a short drive to the Regency town of Cheltenham Spa.

Open water swimming, paddle boarding, windsurfing, sailing and fishing are all available at the Cotswold Water Park, which covers over 40 square miles and 180 lakes, including the Inland Beach.

The Cotswold Way is a 102-mile long-distance footpath, running along the Cotswold Edge escarpment of the Cotswold Hills. These beautiful trails are great for hikers and runners alike, extending from the quintessentially English market town of Chipping Campden to the Roman city of Bath.

Other local attractions include: Cotswold Wildlife Park; Cotswold Motoring Museum; Birdland; Cotswold Sculpture Park; The Model Village in Bourton-on-the-Water; Highgrove; and Westonbirt Arboretum, to name just a few.
